Knives for the food industry are safety knives from MARTOR's MDP range, designed for production environments where tool traceability is critical. Their body is made of a special plastic detectable by metal detectors and X-ray systems, while the blade is made of stainless steel. If the knife or even the smallest fragment of it accidentally enters the product, the control systems detect it before the goods leave the facility.
In this subcategory you will find MARTOR knives and scissors for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as other environments with sensitive processes. Every model is GS-certified, metal-detectable and meets the requirements of the HACCP, IFS and BRC food-safety systems.
What Does MDP Mean?
MDP (Metal Detectable Plastic) means plastic that can be detected by metal detectors. With ordinary knives, only the metal blade can be detected, while the plastic parts remain invisible to the detectors. With MDP knives, the entire body is made of detectable plastic and the blade is stainless steel – so no part of the tool can enter the product unnoticed.
How to Choose an MDP Knife?
The choice depends on the task and the material thickness:
- For multi-ply cardboard and sacks – SECUNORM PROFI40 MDP (40 mm) and SECUNORM PROFI25 MDP (25 mm). Sturdy aluminium knives with automatic retraction for intensive use.
- For film and strapping – SECUMAX 320 MDP. A concealed-blade specialist for packaging materials.
- Compact and versatile – SECUNORM HANDY MDP, SECUNORM SMARTCUT MDP, SECUMAX 145 MDP, SECUMAX 150 MDP.
- For specific tasks – SECUMAX POLYCUT MDP (card knife), SECUMAX Ring Knife MDP (worn on the finger, keeping both hands free) and the SECUPLUS 567 MDP scissors.
Why an MDP Knife in the Food Industry?
In the food and pharmaceutical industry, a foreign object entering the product is a serious risk – both for the consumer and for the manufacturer's reputation and costs. MARTOR's MDP knives reduce this risk to a minimum: the combination of detectable plastic and a stainless-steel blade ensures that any lost fragment will be detected by the control systems. The stainless-steel blade is also corrosion-resistant, making it suitable for regular cleaning with water and aggressive agents.
